Northland Evangelical Movement Incorporated (NEM) is an interdenominational Christian organisation based in Northland, New Zealand. NEM was established on the 4th of September 1945 by a group of local Christian families who wanted to encourage believers from different churches to work together in sharing the Christian faith and serving their communities.
From the beginning, NEM focused on bringing people together to create opportunities for fellowship, Christian teaching, discipleship, practical service and the sharing of faith. While the movement has evolved over the years, that goal remains at the heart of who we are today.
HolyGround Parua Bay is the primary ministry of NEM today. Established in 1960 when ten founding families came together to purchase the property, HolyGround has been a place for Christian camps, gatherings and community connection for generations. The first Easter Camp was held there in 1964, and the ministry has continued to impact lives ever since. Today, HolyGround hosts NEM’s Christ-centered events and provides a place for churches, groups and the wider community to gather, connect and share time together.
Over the years, thousands of volunteers have contributed their time and skills as leaders, speakers, cooks, builders, cleaners, helpers, committee and society members, donors and prayer supporters. Their contribution has helped shape Northland Evangelical Movement into the connecting community it is today.
We’re forever thankful for those who have gone before us, and we want to continue to build on the legacy begun by a few ground-breaking locals: creating opportunities for the next generation to grow in faith, develop as leaders, and serve others.

Our mission is to:
● Encourage people to further the Kingdom of God.
● Unify and connect the churches.
● Provide spaces & opportunities for community connection and recreation and outreach initiatives (particularly with children/ young people).
We acknowledge NEM is a collective of believers working together to further the kingdom of God. We desire trusted relationships of mutual blessing with the local Church and within our camp whanau.
